HP’s computer Tablet

Watch out, the iPad has a rival hot on it’s heals, but it’s not like it wasn’t expected!

PC giant HP has launched an attack on the iPad, by releasing a video introducing its ‘Slate’ tablet that will run the Windows 7 operating system. With applications built around Adobe’s Air technology, photo editing tools and a digital version of The New York Times, also the key addition of being able to run Adobe Flash content. One of the major flaws left out on Apple’s iPad.

HP is running it’s online Ad from sites such as YouTube and MTV. HP’s Slate will offer a full capacitive touchscreen and the familiar pinch-to-zoom gesture. Overall, the design resemblance to the iPad is there, the Slate could clearly be a tablet for those who want an iPad-like device running on a Windows system, and for those who want to stream web video or Facebook games.
It will be available this year, but a date is to be confirmed.

Obviously HP has made a really good job preparing its rival tablet and is ready to join the competition.
It’ll be interesting to see if it can rival the popularity of the Apple iPad.

The video of the Jaguar Academy of Sport Launch

Here it is, now you can see what it was like last Thursday at the Jaguar Academy Launch in London.

TweetPhoto social media integration

Ever heard of TweetPhoto? You may know TweetPic better because of its popularity, but TweetPhoto has also a lot of potential.

TweetPhoto has made some nice updates. When it first launched back in April 2009 it already had useful features, including Foursquare integration and a partnership with Kodak.
Well today TweetPhoto becomes a photo sharing service on its own, by getting more social features and a new iPhone app, ‘TweetPhoto Pro’.
You can now sign up though your Twitter, Facebook, MySpace accounts and Foursquare as well. The site will also be rolling out LinkedIn support in the next few weeks. Another good point is the fact that the service can also link your social networking accounts together. This will enable you to connect all your accounts together and your photos you will be uploading to TweetPhoto can be simultaneously broadcast to all of the networks. The startup has also submitted similar apps for Android and Blackberry platforms.

As they say, photo-sharing is now made simple!

Apple airs first iPad ad

Here it is, Apple’s first iPad TV ad is out. It was aired during last night’s Oscars coverage.
It’s always a big moment when Apple releases a new commercial, we’re use to their creativity and to their colourful, animated ad videos.
Well this one is not quite the same, nothing really that exciting about it. We just see the hand of a man at home picking up the iPad to check out videos, read the New York Times, flip through book pages and check his private mails.
Anyway, choosing the Oscars to release the ad is not common, in 1984 Apple released the ad that launched the Macintosh computer during the third quarter of the Super Bowl. That ad definitely marked everyones mind by its originality.

The iPad’s ad shows it as a mainstream device for private entertainment. It will be on sale in the US for $499 on the 3rd of April and it will hit the stores in the UK in late April. Stay put!

The Oscars within social media

Here we go again, it’s time for the Oscars! The ceremony will air on ABC this Sunday and of course the show will be fully involved in social media.
Three live video streams will broadcast the awards ceremony. Through each of them you will have live access to the main ceremony, and backstage access as well.

If that isn’t enough for you, you can have your say through the official Oscars Facebook. ABC will have the live carpet show at Oscar.com, but reporters plan on asking the arriving celebrities questions submitted by Facebook fans. And of course you can follow the oscars on Twitter @redcarpet.

It’s going to be a busy social networking sunday!

Twitter upgrades its Geo-API

We all had the ‘more information’ questions pop out on our screen when connecting at first.
Twitter wanted us to be more precise by asking us if we wanted to create “geo-tweets,” or Tweets that are tagged with very specific GPS coordinates. The level of specificity unnerves some users who are against giving away such personal and actionable information.

That’s why Twitter decided to bring changes to its gelocation API. The upcoming changes include giving coordinates context, turning them into locations, so when people love a place and want to tweet about it, it will no longer be a latitude and longitude pair but a name. The changes will also give users a variety of privacy options, giving everyone a level that they are comfortable with.

Unfortunately these upgrades will only apply to the US first but it will expand soon. The new Twitter will please eveyone!

Toyota uses Twitter to get more sales

We all remember the fact that recently Toyota have had to recall in excess of 270,000 of their 2010 Prius hybrids due to a fault with the cars antilock braking system. After these issues Toyota has seen their reputation and their sales going down.

To make up for that and their image, they have decided to use Twitter to reach consumers in a more personal and direct way and make them change their opinions about things or at least try. The Japanese auto giant has launched a branded channel on TweetMeme, in partnership with Federated Media, which aggregates and organize Twitter conversations regarding Toyota. Called Toyota Conversations, the site brings together the top stories being Tweeted about Toyota, from news articles to press releases. The site also shows visitors the most popular videos and images being shared about Toyota on Twitter. It’s funny to see that it’s only positives tweets and good news about the car brand.

What’s amazing is that Twitter has become such a big thing in people’s life that now even brands uses Twitter to get even more awareness and acknowledge.

ESPN streamer for Europe and Middle East

If you’re a sport fan, you’re going to love this news.
ESPN, the sport coverage has launched ESPN Player, a new online video streamer for Europe and in the Middle East similar to its US service ESPN360.

The first content available on ESPN Player will be the majority of the second half of the 2009-10 NHL season, including the playoffs. The ‘Player’ has a lot of nice features like the ‘NHL Highlight Marker’ with which you can stop, rewind or jump to goals. There is also ‘HD Adaptive Streaming’, a feature that ensures less buffering and smoother, higher-quality video. The service is targeting two major groups of sports fans, Europeans and Americans living overseas. According to the ESPN head of commercial affairs, Robin Ashton, the most attractive feature is the multi-language option for the European market.

No worries then if you can’t follow ‘the Match’ on TV, you just need a laptop and internet connection and you’re saved!
